Earn the President’s Volunteer Service Award & the American Citizenship Award!

Compass students and other Northern Virginia homeschooled students ages 6-18 are invited to earn two recognitions through Compass: the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) and the American Citizenship Award (ACA)! These awards celebrate the community service work that students complete from September 1 through August 31 each year. Many homeschoolers volunteer in the community and at camps during the summer, so this is a great time to get started on these awards. 

The PVSA award is given at the Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels, depending on the student’s age and number of volunteer hours completed. In addition, students can earn the American Citizenship Award (ACA) for completing 15 hours of qualifying educational activities about citizenship (branches of government, voting/election activities, naturalization, etc.) or service to veterans, active duty military, first responders, etc. Students receive their awards at a ceremony in the fall. For teens, these awards can be noteworthy recognitions on college applications to demonstrate community involvement and leadership.

New this year: Student volunteers will now use a web-based portal through our affiliate organization, Volunteer Scholars to enter all of their community service hours and track their progress online- no more paper forms! Read complete details about the Compass-sponsored PVSA and ACA awards online.

To get started, Compass students must sign up at no cost HERE. Non-Compass homeschooled students from northern Virginia may sign up HERE and pay a $25.00 activity fee. Once signed up through Compass, students will receive links to set up their Volunteer Scholars portals.

Please note that students must be homeschooled in 2023/24 and 2024/25 to go through Compass. All others, including students who are not homeschooled or are located outside of northern Virginia should go through Volunteer Scholars to earn these awards.
