Learn about the dynamic, fast-faced work of architects and builders in the new Compass class, Design & Construction Basics. Discover the career opportunities in the thriving $1.1 trillion industry which is much more than hardhats and shovels. Teens will learn about the comprehensive process from concept to completion of buildings and the vast team of professionals who design, engineer, finance, manage, staff, schedule, estimate, insure, inspect, furnish, and build these structures.

Design & Construction: Building Basics is one of Compass’s new career exploration electives for high school students. It is a 10-week seminar taught by Tom Shumaker, a retired executive in the construction industry. Students will gain insights into the project management, collaboration, and problem-solving critical in these fields. This class will discuss trends, innovations, and sustainability practices through projects, hands-on activities, and guest speakers.

Design & Construction: Building Basics will meet on Monday mornings from 10:00 am- 11:55 am starting September 30. Spaces are available. Register HERE.
