Announcing: Compass Year-End Family Picnic & Park Day

Celebrate the end of the homeschool year! Welcome summer! Say good-bye to current friends, and meet new ones who will be joining us in the fall! This event is open to anyone who attended Compass classes in 2023-24 and new families who will be registering for 2024-25 classes starting 5/14/24. Meet-Up: Picnic Shelter and Playing Field

Compass has reserved facilities at Bready Park in Herndon to hold our annual Year-End Family Picnic and Park Day. This is an informal, casual drop-in event.

Pack lunch for your family, and join us for a group picnic followed by outdoor games. High school members of the Alpha Rho Honor Society and other Compass teens will be running several traditional field day games such as sack race, tug-of-war, silly relays, etc., for kids ages 4-14. Kids will rotate through the field day stations in age groups. Organized activities take approx. 1 hour, 15 minutes. After that, kids are free to repurpose the equipment, make up their own games, play, run-around and enjoy the 2 playgrounds.

What to Bring:

  • Picnic lunch and plenty of drinks/water for your own family.
  • A snack to share (Kids are usually ready for snacks around 3:30-4:00 pm)
  • —Last Name A-G: Healthy Snack
  • —Last Name H-M: Sweet Snack
  • —Last Name N-Z: Savory Snack
  • Sports equipment & outdoor toys to share (bats, balls, gloves, soccer balls, footballs, volleyball, badminton, corn hole, frisbees, bubbles, lawn games, sand toys, squirt guns, etc.) Sidewalk chalk not allowed. Please label everything that you bring.
  • Board games or card games for anyone who does not want to play sports.
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, and/or insect repellent.
  • Folding camp/sports-type chair.

Curriculum Give-Away:

  • Anyone who has gently used homeschool curriculum to give away is invited to bring items to place on a “free” table to pass along to another homeschool family.

Inclement Weather:

  • In the event of a day-long, drenching rain and/or thunderstorms, this event will be rescheduled on a new date after confirming with the park authorities.
