REMINDER: Band Instrument Test Drive Event This Afternoon (Feb. 21)
Remember that today, Wednesday, February 21, is your child’s chance to touch a trombone, hold a horn, click a clarinet, and strike a snare! Try these instruments and others at today’s Instrument Test Drive at Compass. Representatives from the Music & Arts store will have test instruments set up in Suite D near the main desk from 1:00 pm- 3:00 pm. Location is 520 Herndon Parkway, Suite D. This is a drop-in event open to all homeschoolers, whether or not they take classes at Compass yet.
Students will have an opportunity to handle and try different instruments. The new Compass band director, Jessica Eastridge, will be on hand to answer questions about the spring band clinics, summer band camp, and Compass’s plans for a 2024-25 homeschool concert band. While the fall band is projected for students in 4th-8th grades, we will be keeping a list of interested older or younger students so Compass can consider other level bands or smaller ensembles.
This Test Drive event introduces students to the choices of band instruments. Band is often cited as a school experience that parents worry that their homeschooled kids will miss out on. For those considering the 2024-25 homeschool band, Compass is offering three, 8-week spring clinics to introduce students in 4th-8th grades to their new instruments. Register through the links below.

- Band-Ready Spring Clinic: Woodwinds (Mondays, 11am starting March 18)

Compass is also host to the Dulles Area Summer Band Camp, scheduled from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm the week of July 29 – August 2. Registration begins March 5.
