Come face-to-face with famous Americans in American History Alive! American History Alive! is the signature presentation series enjoyed by hundreds of Compass families since 2012. This one-of-a-kind, weekly rendez-vous with historical figures is a creative twist to make your homeschooler’s study of American history come to life! This is the most interactive, innovative American history class you will find in the metro DC area!

Historical characters are brought to life for students though engaging, first person presentations by professional, costumed, living history interpreters each Monday from 11:30 am- 12:25 pm. Students will connect faces, personalities, humor, and fun facts with influential characters in America’s history. Our first quarter line-up includes:

  • Sept. 9: John Rolfe, husband of Pocahantas
  • Sept. 16: William Tharpe, an English Colonist
  • Sept. 23: Benjamin Franklin
  • Sept. 30: Martha Washington
  • Oct. 7: Thomas Jefferson
  • Oct 14: John Adams

Living history interpreters are the professionals employed by museums, historical sites, and conferences. They have typically studied their historical character for years and tell their stories and contributions in a compelling, first-person narrative. Presentations are conversational in style, often involve the audience, and conclude with spontaneous audience Q & A. Living history presentations are scheduled in chronological order for families who wish to use the program as a roadmap for a study in American history. Students of all ages and parents are welcome to register. Please note that a parent must register and attend with students under age 8.
